Average Channel Capacity for a Power and Rate Adaptive DS/FFH CDMA Cellular System

The average channel capacity (in the Shannon sense) per user of a hybrid cellular directsequence/fast frequency hopping code-division multipleaccess (DS/FFH-CDMA) system operating in a Rayleigh fading environment is examined. The analysis covers the downlink of a cellular system assuming a static model of operation and leads to a novel expression for the average channel capacity available to each system’s user, under optimal power and rate adaptation, providing an optimistic upper bound, useful for practical modulation and coding schemes.
